Bedok residents, you’re in for a treat: Daily Mujo is a new cafe hidden under a HDB block in Bedok North. The minimalist, Japandi-style spot offers affordable mains under $18, which is a steal for most cafes in this day and age! Bedok Mall Food Guide: 8 Eateries For Taiwan Desserts, Yakiniku And More There’s a nostalgic charm to its location, along a row of heartland stores, including a bird shop—something you’ll only come across in mature estates these days. Daily Mujo sports a minimalist theme with lots of light wood furnishings, including full-length windows to allow ample natural light to stream in. Their Laksa Hokkien Mee ($11) stands out from the menu as it’s rather uncommon that you’ll find local fare served at a cafe. This hearty main comes with three tiger prawns, which is not bad considering its wallet-friendly price tag. Thick bee hoon is tossed in a rich and creamy laksa sauce, along with tau kwa. You also get a hit of umami from the sauce, which I assume is infused with prawn stock. Another interesting main is the Pandan Chicken Chop ($15), where you get a slab of pandan-infused chicken paired with pineapple salsa, fries, and coleslaw. The chicken thigh was juicy and tender with a lovely char on the outside, pairing well with the sweet and tangy salsa. I couldn’t discern much pandan flavour, so those who aren’t fans of pandan might enjoy this. You can fuel up with local beverages such as Kopi Latte ($4), which is essentially kopi bing topped with a creamy milk foam. Otherwise, try their Mango Matcha Latte ($7), where sweet mango puree meets earthy matcha and milk, if you’re feeling adventurous.
