If you’re a fan of cafes in the vein of Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe and The Hainan Story, then Kopi 1930 near Rochor MRT Station will appeal to you. Styled as a “Nanyang cafe”, Kopi 1930 promises a range of old-school local eats and drinks, including kaya toast, nasi lemak, and of course, Nanyang coffee. You can enjoy all of those items in the cafe’s elegant interiors, which is a sort of blend between a minimalist approach and traditional coffee shop designs. The whole cafe is housed in a colonial building, too, which gives the space a quaint vibe. If you’re here for breakfast, Kopi 1930’s range of bread dishes will satisfy you. If you like your breakfast with some eggs, then the Soft Boiled Eggs on White Bread ($3.50+) comes highly recommended; for those into toast, the Homemade Kaya, Butter White Bread (from $2.60+) is great. Otherwise, the signature Peanut Butter, Crushed Peanut, Butter, Homemade Kaya ($4+) is a must-try, as it combines the aforementioned ingredients into a thick, fluffy bun, making for a truly decadent treat. Remember to pair these dishes with a good cup of coffee, such as the fragrant Kopi Butter ($2.40+) and the rich Yuan Yang ($4.50+). Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe Review: New Retro-Inspired Cafe With Moonlight Hor Fun And Coconut Coffee In CBD If you’re looking for something heartier, Kopi 1930 has a solid selection of mains for you to order. These include the Laksa ($9.90+), Braised Pork Belly, Tau Kwa, Egg, Rice ($12.90+), and the Nasi Lemak w/ Chicken Rendang, Sambal Prawn Petai, Egg ($17.90+). The nasi was particularly impressive, as it features a juicy and richly flavoured rending chicken leg, along with some piquant sambal prawn petai. Having a mouthful of those along with some creamy coconut rice is quite the experience. Kopi 1930 is a dining destination worth recommending, especially if you’re fond of traditional Singaporean breakfasts or local main dishes.
