Food places in Joo Chiat and Katong are a mix of traditional and modern. Walk along the main street, and you will find June Coffee, a new brunch cafe with matcha latte and honey ricotta French toast. And if you walk further, you can find old-school places such as Joo Chiat Place Fried Kway Teow. Here to combine both old and new is Staple Food Cafe, which fuses typical cafe fare with classic Singaporean flavours. Also, all items are nett here!  23 Joo Chiat And Katong Food Places For Affordable Lunch Sets, Otah Banh Mi And More The cafe is famous for their Joo Chiat Laksa ($24), which sees pasta drenched in their house-made laksa broth, then generously topped with tiger prawns, mussels, crispy battered fish and more! The noodles are said to be al dente, soaking up the flavourful broth.  Another highlight is their Har Cheong Gai Sando ($16). This fragrant sandwich boasts prawn-paste chicken that has been marinated for 12 hours before being deep-fried for that ultra-crispy texture. House-made mango dressing is then drizzled on top before it’s served.  End your meal with desserts! Their Spectacular ($8.50) croffle comes topped with whipped cream, Biscoff crumbs, and speculoos drizzle. If you like to pair your toasty treat with ice cream, get the Classic ($6.50) and then add $4.50 for a scoop of their Cookies Monster gelato. FYI, there are other flavours to choose from! Many patrons also like to order their cakes, and we can see why. Their wide selection of cakes includes our favourite flavours such as Yam Orh-Nee ($8.50). This taro-infused cake has house-made yam paste between the cake layers, then covered with coconut cream. Their Black Sesame ($8.50) is another crowd-pleaser. This one has black sesame in everything: from black sesame sponge cake to their caramelised black sesame cream, and even toasted black sesame seeds as the finishing touch.  The cafe is located along Joo Chiat Road, and the nearest station is Eunos MRT Station. The cosy cafe is brightly lit, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Plus, the wooden chairs and tables add a touch of simplicity that reminds us of several Japanese cafes in Singapore.  In related news, check out 9Toast Cafe for their taro latte and honey butter toast!
