In an area already filled with attractive eateries, Nook, a new three-storey restaurant in Tanjong Pagar, stands out with its edgy, warts-and-all approach to interior design. 19 Tanjong Pagar Food Places For Korean BBQ, Sweet Potato Desserts And More Taking cues from the Brutalism movement, Nook’s concrete walls are raw and unpolished, with the dim lighting adding to this uncompromising look. But perhaps it is the presence of installation art—designed by Nook’s in-house artist—that truly gives the restaurant its visual edge. The best of these looks straight out of a David Cronenberg film: five retro televisions are impaled by concrete poles while a projector casts obscure images onto them. Food-wise, Nook serves modern European fare with an Asian twist. A good example of this is the Aquina ½ Organic Chicken ($42++) and Koshihikari Rice ($18++) combination, which is said to be the restaurant’s take on chicken rice. Other must-try dishes include the Australian Full Blood Wagyu Skirt ($42++). Expertly grilled and succulent Wagyu beef is elevated by shio koji’s umami kick, then topped by scallions for extra fragrance. The Crispy Scales Blue Cod ($32++) is another excellent option. Featuring a delightfully soft piece of cod with crisp edges, this dish is paired with creamed leek and caviar beurre blanc to give it a sweet, buttery richness. Once you’re done with your food, you can head up to level two, where you’ll find cocktail bar Nowhere. If you prefer a private space to drink and party in a group, you can even book the member’s lounge on level three—but you’ll need to hit the minimum spending of $1500 in order to do so.
