New details have emerged about Sony's upcoming , codnamed , according to Tom Warren of . Tom says the new console would emphasise advanced capabilities and introduce a bespoke upscaling technology known as (PSSR). Sources familiar with Sony’s plans told Tom of the significant upgrade in the PS5 Pro's hardware. The GPU will reportedly perform roughly 45 percent better than the original PS5, enhancing its ability to render games with ray tracing at higher resolutions and frame rates. While the GPU sees this substantial boost, the CPU's enhancement is more modest, at about a 10 percent improvement, alongside a high-frequency mode that pushes clock speeds to from 3.5GHz. Sony appears to be setting high standards for visual performance, and Tom says the company is urging developers to incorporate extensive ray tracing and graphical improvements to earn a label for their games. On the memory front, the PS5 Pro will see a significant throughput increase, with system memory speed jumping from , . This is part of a broader effort to make the system more efficient, and Sony suggests that the actual bandwidth gain could surpass these figures. The console's total memory will also rise from 12.5GB to , giving developers more capacity to work with. Sony's new upscaling technology is really the most interesting update and upgrade – PSSR. It is designed around a custom architecture that leverages machine learning to support . Accordingly, the tech is aimed at replacing traditional temporal anti-aliasing, adding support for HDR and maintaining low latency – around 2ms when upscaling from 1080p to 4K. Sony is also working on extending this to support 8K resolutions. The PlayStation 5 Pro is likely to make its debut by the end of this year. Source:
