We've been waiting for this phone to launch globally for a while now (debuted only in China in July 2023), and now that the is finally here, it was a bit of a surprise how competitively priced this phone is compared to rivals like the and . Officially announced today (16 January 2024) in its global launch that its coming to Singapore, the Honor Magic V2 is the world's thinnest foldable phone at , and just . It's also lightweight at model while the glass back model weighs . Let's put those figures into some context:- The figures might not seem like much, but they do add-up quickly to paint a very different reality when you hold Honor's foldable phone compared to Samsung's best. Considering Honor launched this in China over six months ago, we're not sure what Honor was honestly waiting for when they had such a big upperhand. The Find N3 already felt good in our hands, so the Magic V2 can only be better. The phone will be available in three colourways (technically just two), Purple, Black and Black PU with a vegan leather back, with just one configuration( ) for the Singapore market. The internal LTPO OLED screen is nice and big at , with a and up to . The external LTPO OLED screen (the largest yet for a foldable phone) also has a 120Hz refresh rate, but with a higher peak brightness of and it's being protected by Honor's Nanocrystal Glass 2.0 which is supposedly 10-times more drop resistant than its predecessor. You'll also be happy to note that it features a , which is more in-line to a regular phone screen size ), as opposed to the narrower 23:9 aspect ratio used on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. The Magic V2 uses in the hinge cover alongside Honor's proprietary steel for the hinge main body, resulting in a thin hinge that Honor claims reduces the depth of the internal crease by 47%. SGS, a company focused on , has also certified the hinge for , which means the phone will be able to last for up to 10 years with an average of 100 folds a day. With dual Silicon-carbon batteries that measure in at an average thickness of 2.72mm while having a large capacity and support for , Honor claims the Magic V2 will be able to last 14 hours while streaming videos. We'll certainly be looking to test this out in our full review to see whether Honor has compromised on anything to keep the Magic V2 so slim. On the rear, Honor has packed in a triple rear camera array with a . Here are more details of each:- For selfies or wefies, there are 16MP wide cameras on both the interior and exterior screens, and they appear to be the same lenses with an f/2.2 aperture. The phone is running on the , which isn't the newest (see: ) but is still a snappy processor with plenty of power, with Honor's own which is based on Android 13. This is to be expected since the phone first debuted exlusively in China, six months back.
The price is the most surprising part, however, with the Honor Magic V2 retailing at just in Singapore. While that's still pricey, it's significantly cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 (S$2,579 for 512GB of storage) and the Oppo Find N3 (S$2,399 for 512GB of storage) in similar configurations. Additionally, Honor is offering pre-order goodies worth from 17 to 24 January 2024:- The warranty is definitely the highlight as most issues with foldable phones tend to originate from wear and tear of the folding screen first. This gives users more confidence to adopt the folding lifestyle without too much anxiety if something should crop up later. Pre-orders can be made at , , , , , and authorised Honor retailers. Official sales start from , with every purchase entitled to a complimentary Honor Watch GS3 (worth S$299). Stay tuned for our full review, but if you're intrigued and want to for yourself, Honor is running an experiential roadshow at Bugis Junction's Basement 1 Atrium to let the public try out the Honor Magic V2 from 17 to 21 January 2024. Meanwhile, for more details of the phone, .
