Sony's new PlayStation 5 Pro launches this 7 Nov for S$1,069, comes with an AI Upscaler (Updated)

Well, it’s finally official. After countless rumour, speculation and hype, Sony finally unveiled the and has even said that it is coming this . But let's be clear: the PS5 Pro is the PlayStation 6. It's not a full leap into the next generation of consoles but more of a turbocharged iteration that focuses squarely on one thing: making games look better. And just like the PS4 Pro did for the OG PS4, that alone might be worth the upgrade for some gamers. Traditionally, most PlayStation 5 games have offered two modes: fidelity mode, which prioritises graphical detail but locks the frame rate at 30fps, and performance mode, which sacrifices some visual elements to run at a smoother 60fps. In a virtual presentation led by Mark Cerny, PlayStation's lead architect, about 75% of players opt for the latter, favouring a smoother experience over visual fidelity. This player preference seems to have influenced Sony’s direction with the PS5 Pro, which aims to eliminate this choice altogether by enhancing or adding the following features: The PS5 Pro’s most significant upgrade is its larger RDNA 3-powered GPU, which promises up to a 45% increase in rendering speeds. Mark also claims that the GPU is able to calculate light’s behaviour at double (and sometimes triple) the speed of the PS5’s older RDNA 2 GPU, and running the new Pro mode on supported games will run them at 4K 60fps. Then there’s the new AI-driven upscaling tech called the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which is a custom hardware for machine learning. According to Mark, PSSR analyses game images pixel by pixel to add extra detail and boost resolution, effectively sharpening visuals without putting as much strain on the hardware. This feature could enhance both new and older titles, potentially giving a fresh look to games that may not have been optimised for 4K. There are already several first-party and third-party titles that will be optimised to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s hardware. These include existing Sony published titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West. Other titles from publishers like Square Enix, Capcom and Ubisoft include Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. At its heart, the PS5 Pro is all about giving gamers more choice. Whether you want the highest possible fidelity or the smoothest performance, Sony’s latest console aims to deliver both. All of these power don’t come cheap though: the PlayStation 5 Pro comes with an eye-popping price tag. And this is . Curiously, the PS5 Pro is available  as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately. The console will include a , a and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. Pre-orders will begin from at these  .
