Revolut launches AI-based scam detection feature for its multi-currency card

The feature was developed in-house, relying on the expertise of its Financial Crimes department. Revolut uses machine learning to detect if a customer is getting scammed. If it’s flagged, the payment is declined from the start, and the user is directed to their Revolut mobile app for scam intervention. The user must provide additional information about the transaction during the in-app phase. This step checks if a scammer is misleading the user into making a fraudulent payment. The user will also be informed of specific scams and prompted to think deeper before approving the payment. From Revolut’s end, the company can also direct the user to a chat with its in-house fraud specialist. The specialist will offer more questions to help determine if the user is being scammed. Since launching the feature, Revolut said it saw a 30% reduction in fraud losses related to “investment opportunities”.
