At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 today (26 February 2024), Technologies Inc. launched the , designed for portable devices like smartphones. Qualcomm’s modem platforms are responsible for 5G network compatibility in modern handsets and some tablets. The new Snapdragon X80 takes 5G connectivity further by using a dedicated tensor accelerator (Qualcomm 5G AI Processor Gen 2) that taps into AI smarts to improve data speeds, quality of service, coverage, accuracy, and efficiency at all once. On the Snapdragon X80 comes the , which is a collection of perks that includes everything above, on top of mmWave beam management that provides 5G standalone range extension and GNSS Location Gen 3. The Qualcomm Smart Network Selection Gen 3 software suite on the modem looks at user scenarios to provide context-based performance enhancements, and it’s an on-device, machine-learning algorithm that improves network selection for the end-user (the smartphone). Qualcomm claims of 5G peak download speeds and peak upload speeds for the Snapdragon X80 Modem-RF System. To efficiently use the spectrum made available by telcos and network operators worldwide, the chipset also has for sub-6GHz bands and across communication channels. Smartphone users would also be glad to know that the modem supports simultaneous dual-SIM, thanks to its Qualcomm DSDA Gen 2 inclusion. Whether the phone has dual SIM or not depends on the brands and manufacturers, as this modem makes its way into newer smartphones.
