New Google Pixel feature asks for your help to prevent overheating

Your next update could be more helpful in keeping your device cool and safe. , the team took apart the APK of Google’s Device Health Services app and found several strings of code that hinted at a new thermal management feature for Android-based Pixel devices. It’s codenamed “ ” and goes beyond the standard auto-cooling functions already available on most modern Android (and non-Android) smartphones.  Currently,  automatically by slowing down or shutting down certain functions (limiting network connectivity, denying camera access, slower charging, etc.). Adaptive Thermal is said to go beyond automated management by to speed up the cooling process. According to the APK file teardown, the new feature has a battery temperature measurement service that throws out notification dialogues when the Pixel device . Prompts include letting the user know that the phone needs to cool down, and it also recommends actions (i.e. avoiding direct sunlight, closing out apps). Additionally, the app has a “ ” prompt that shows the user what steps the device automatically takes to start cooling down. Android Authority said that the APK samples your device's temperature every five minutes to check its temperature. If the device reaches a higher , the app causes it to enter an “emergency” state. At , the phone initiates an automatic shut-down. It’s unclear if Adaptive Thermal will be part of or if it’s coming as a soon. Source:
