NETS gives out 1 million complimentary NETS motoring card to ease OBU 2.0 transition

Most drivers in Singapore would’ve already heard about the new electronic road pricing (ERP 2.0) and its accompanying on-board unit 2.0 (OBU 2.0), which has gained plenty of attention over the last few months. For the passenger princes and princesses among us, you can here if you want to appreciate why drivers are so passionate about the changes this project brings.  In a nutshell, the new three-piece system, which , has an interesting in-vehicle placement that saw an “ ”. That said, early adopters of OBU 2.0 are granted the privilege of  to the driver's side, so that the driver’s foot or knees can be intimately reminded of the law-abiding, tax-paying device every time they take the wheel. In an official release today (30 May 2024), has decidedly thrown its hat into the ring. The payments provider announced that it’s to every vehicle owner when they install their new OBUs (card pictured above). Up to motorists are expected to receive the complimentary card. This includes motorists who have already installed the new system in their vehicles. Here’s how: The NETS Motoring card is a stored-value card compatible with the new OBUs and capable of paying tolls via ERP. NETS added that it’s the only card accepted at all carparks in Singapore, so motorists do not have to remove their existing cards inside their OBUs to pay for parking at retro carparks that do not use ERP systems. To use the new card, motorists can add cash value (top-up) via the NETS app. They can also top-up the new card at the 3,800 NETS top-up machines in Singapore. Top-ups can also be done via NETS Customer Service Centre, the ATMs of local banks, and convenience stores. These options exist alongside an auto-top-up feature (opt-in) on the new card as well.
