Four men, all aged 20, were arrested for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment. The police were alerted on Sept 14 and 15 to the two cases at residential units in Marine Drive and Pasir Ris Street 13, where the main gates and doors were splashed with red paint and yellow paint respectively. Debtor’s notes were also left behind. Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the four men and arrested them on Sept 15. A plastic bag from Mustafa Centre, a metal pot holder, a black marker, three cans of paints and a notebook were seized as case exhibits. Preliminary investigations revealed that the men are allegedly involved in other cases of loanshark harassment. They were to be charged in court on Sept 16 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
