iPadOS 18 is finally getting a Calculator app and supercharged math features with Math Notes

Apple has just announced iPadOS 18 and the big news is that it finally gets its own calculator app. There are also a host of other updates, many of which are coming to iOS 18 too, but let’s talk about that new calculator app first. Apple has been teased for years about the lack of a calculator app in iPadOS and they have finally responded. The new Calculator app not only works like a regular calculator app, it also has a feature called Math Notes that lets users write down math expressions or equations using an Apple Pencil and see them solved instantly. The demo looked incredible and I can see it being a hit among students. Like iOS 18, iPadOS will be getting a more customisable Home Screen. Users now have greater freedom as to where apps can be placed on the Home Screen and there are more customisation options. On top of that, the Control Centre gets a overhaul with more panels so that users can access operations more quickly. Many owners use their iPads to take notes and Smart Script is a new feature that helps tidy your handwriting and make it more legible. It doesn’t entire edit or change your handwriting. What it does is it smooths out your handwriting and straightens it to make it look neater. iPadOS 18 didn’t get any major new multi-tasking feature, but there’s now a tab bar that floats above apps and complements the app’s side bar. This tab bar is customisable too, giving users quick access to the app’s functionality.  Like iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, iPadOS 18 will feature deep integration with Apple Intelligence – Apple’s suite of generative AI tools. Some features of Apple Intelligence in iPadOS 18 include , which can help users proofread, summarise, and even rewrite their documents. This can be used across nearly all apps that involve writing such as Pages, Mail, Notes, and even third-party apps. iPadOS 18 will also have access to , Apple Intelligence’s image generation tool. The Photos app gets a huge deep with features like Memories in Photos, which uses machine learning to identify a user’s best photos to craft a story. iPadOS 18 will be available later this year as a free update. Apple Intelligence features will be available on all iPads powered by an M1 chip and above. For more on iPadOS 18, .
