Google Photos set to get supercharged with Gemini AI in Android 15

After announcing , the newest and most capable generative AI model from Google, back in late 2023, the company is now looking to make Google Photos even better with Gemini.  As it stands now, Google Photos already employs some aspects of AI which is how it's able to search your uploaded photo library to fetch media related to people's faces, places or other more abstract searches. Building on this, the new  powered by Gemini now allows for like “show me the best ramen photos I’ve taken recently”, and Google Photos will be able to pick out relevant images to display. Additionally, Ask Photos will be able to when prompted, thanks to Gemini’s multimodal capabilities. An example provided by Google was for the prompt “remind me what themes we’ve had for Lena’s birthday parties”, with Ask Photos replying with a list of birthday themes, including a princess celebration, an ocean-themed party with mermaids and more.  For people who are too lazy to go through thousands of photos to create an album for sharing with friends and family, Ask Photos will be able to as well. Thanks to Gemini, the feature will even be able to if needed for social media sharing.  Of course, Ask Photos is still an experimental feature that’s only going to roll out this summer, and it’s heartening to see that Google has noted that if an answer is corrected or if the user provides more information, Ask Photos will be able to remember those details for the future.  On the privacy side of things, Google has promised that personal data and conversations in Ask Photos will not be reviewed by humans except in rare cases to address abuse or harm, and that no AI training will be done outside of Google Photos.
