Get Free-Flow Curry At This New Hainanese Curry Rice Eatery At Rivervale Plaza

CHOMP is a new eatery serving local fare such as their signature Hainanese-style curry rice with free-flow curry, at Rivervale Plaza. …

Located in the heart of Sengkang at Rivervale Plaza is CHOMP!, a new eatery specialising in Hainanese-style curry rice.  Hainanese curry rice is nothing short of a sinful dish, consisting of white rice drenched in heapfuls of gravy flavoured with spices, and a lemak curry to make it extra rich.  Here, a must-try is their signature Supreme Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice ($6.90), which stars generous amounts of fragrant Hainanese curry, braised sauce, their signature fried chicken cutlet, a fried sunny-side-up, and chap chye AKA mixed vegetables.  They drench your rice in curry and gravy, leaving no space uncovered. But if that’s still not enough for you, don’t worry, as the curry here is free-flow and you can always top up your plate with more. On our visit, we found the braised gravy savoury and meaty, while the curry was thick and creamy with a pleasant kick of spice that cut through the richness.  Alternatively, they also have Beef Rendang Rice ($7.90). It came with generous amounts of beef pieces, which were unfortunately tougher and chewier than we’d liked. Other than their curry rice dishes, you can go for a variety of curry-infused snacks to get on the side. The Curry Toast Benedict with Crispy Dahfa Codfish ($4.80) features two pieces of toast, drenched in the same curry, topped with soft-boiled eggs, and paired with a crispy codfish cracker.  They also have Curry Fishballs ($3.50), served in a bowl of five pieces.  Alternatively, satisfy your laksa cravings here with the Laksa FAFA ($5.70), featuring creamy and spicy coconut gravy, noodles, fishcake, tau pok, beansprouts, and a heapful of chilli paste.  Moving on to the drinks, they have some lesser-seen offerings such as the YYLo! ($4.50), which is the perfect combination of teh, kopi, and milo. This is part of their Iced Boom series, which includes Iced Teh Boom ($3.80), Iced Kopi Boom ($3.80), and Iced Yuan Yang Boom ($4). The ‘boom’ comes from the way the drinks are prepared and presented, with lots of foam overflowing off the top of each cup.  End off your meal by indulging in a snack reminiscent of your childhood days, the Ice Pop ($2), which comes in flavours such as Milo and Lime. These frozen treats are even stored in an old-school cart to further amplify the nostalgic factor. For other good eats in the area, check out our Sengkang food guide.
