I refer to the letter by Mr Gabriel Chia Sit Loke, calling for a “more balanced approach” with regard to personal mobility devices and personal mobility aids (PMAs) ( , Aug 26). I fully support his call. I am in my late 70s and one of those using PMAs. With the population ageing, PMAs on footpaths are increasingly a common sight. Not all HDB flats have enough space to keep PMAs inside homes. I know elderly people who do not buy one because they do not have the space to park and charge PMAs. Additionally, neighbours may not feel safe or comfortable if there are PMAs parked next door. Parking them in open spaces like void decks, with necessary safety measures, may help solve the problem. Thus, Mr Chia’s suggestion of “establishing secure, designated charging and storage areas” is most welcome. I hope town councils will seriously consider the idea.
