I read with shock the report “ ” (July 2). The horrific abuse inflicted on an innocent and defenceless victim by not only the 73-year-old woman but also five other members of her family is beyond belief. Are all of them suffering from some form of mental problem or are they sadists to the extreme? I cannot even bring myself to describe the torture inflicted on the intellectually disabled woman. If only one family member had stepped in to stop the torture, the woman would not have suffered so much to the point of near death. The punishment meted out to the offenders can never mitigate the injuries that were caused.  Once in a while, we read of such reports, but I would say this case is the worst. We are an advanced nation and most of our citizens are well-educated. We should not behave in such an inhumane manner towards another human being.
