Forum: Put a cap on price of bottled water

Water is an essential basic need, and in Singapore it is safe and affordable to drink directly from our taps.

Water is an essential basic need, and in Singapore it is safe and affordable to drink directly from our taps. However, some places sell bottled drinking water at ridiculous prices.  At supermarkets such as FairPrice, it costs between 30 cents and 40 cents a bottle. However, at convenience stores, coffee shops, hawker centres and even vending machines, the price soars to between $1.20 and $2.80. Can this profiteering be curbed? Food prices have all gone up, and so have beverage prices. When I have my meal at a coffee shop, I cannot afford to drink water and instead opt for a cup of tea because it is $1.20 per cup as opposed to $1.80 for a bottle of water.
