Forum: No reason to have event for modified cars

I have no objection to Motor Sports Singapore’s gymkhana events that took place on Sentosa recently over two weekends showcasing driver skills like drifting. But I am surprised that a “pop and bang” segment – where cars are tuned to shoot flames and make loud popping noises – was permitted. In recent years, I have noticed more modified cars tearing down roads emitting loud popping noises and disturbing the sleep of people living in flats lining the roads.  These car owners are simply inconsiderate. I have asked the authorities to check this nuisance but the problem seems unabated. The last thing we need is to sanction an event that celebrates it. This is akin to banning vaping but permitting a Mice meet for vapers to share new developments on flavours, for example.  What’s needed here is a consistent policy stance on illegal vehicle modifications.
