Forum: Make history more interesting for students

I’ve always liked the subject of history, which teaches us to not repeat the mistakes of the past. As philosopher George Santayana said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That is why I believe history is a useful subject for students to immerse themselves in.

I’ve always liked the subject of history, which teaches us to not repeat the mistakes of the past. As philosopher George Santayana said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That is why I believe history is a useful subject for students to immerse themselves in. Given the focus on Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, however, students may not realise the importance of history. We do need a balance between science and arts subjects and I feel that learning from history would encourage our growth as a society as a whole. Perhaps one way we can foster a love for history among students would be to have a history symposium for all schools. The symposium can share stories from history using mediums that students would like, for example, the Kahoot! platform, to make it more interesting and for students to learn to like history more.
