I refer to the article “ ” (Aug 20). As a healthcare worker, I agree that we should remain calm amid the emergence of mpox. Panic buying during Covid-19, for example, caused a lot of chaos. Pox diseases have been with us for decades, with smallpox having been successfully eradicated. Vaccines for mpox are available (unlike at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic). Compared with Covid-19, mpox is also less infectious. However, we should still stay vigilant. We should practise personal hygiene, wash our hands frequently, and heed travel advisories. If you suspect that you have mpox, call the clinic before visiting it. Social and personal responsibilities are equally important in dealing with such a disease. We should continue to stay engaged through disease surveillance, practical thinking, and vigilance. Let’s manage this mpox calmly and cautiously.
