We refer to Mr Mohamad Abdullah Maiden’s letter “ ” (Aug 13). The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), alongside the Singapore Armed Forces and Singapore Police Force, is featured prominently in each National Day Parade (NDP). The SCDF forms a marching contingent in the parade and ceremony segment. SCDF personnel, vehicles and technology are part of every dynamic display. At NDP 2024, for example, to commemorate 40 years of total defence, the SCDF showcased its responses to civil emergencies with its highly trained personnel and its latest fleet of emergency vehicles. Personnel within the guard of honour contingents all bear firearms, and the SCDF troops were not included as this is not part of their personal equipment.
