Most door-to-door sales are nothing but scams targeting seniors.

Most door-to-door sales are nothing but scams targeting seniors. For instance, durian sellers sell unripe or poor-quality durians, bought cheaply from distributors and resold at exorbitant prices to gullible customers. This is cheating. These door-to-door sales should be prohibited as the sellers are nothing but scammers. I refer to the article “Good habits needed to tackle increasingly important challenge of public hygiene: DPM Heng” (June 12). Just as workplaces have the concept of autonomous maintenance, which inculcates greater ownership in maintaining the workstation or equipment, there ought to be a similar national strategy as part of becoming a more gracious society. I don’t create a mess for others. I use it, I keep it. I dirty it, I clean it. I bin my own trash. We don’t have to be a “fine” nation to be more gracious. A While I support reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainability, the plastic bag charge policy overlooks the practical needs of households that rely on plastic bags to dispose of garbage. I suggest that supermarkets offer the first plastic bag free. It maintains the incentive to use reusable bags, while making it flexible for those who forgot to bring a bag or unexpectedly need to buy more items. This approach balances addressing practical needs and promoting sustainable practices.
