I am pleased there are more dog runs as my dog and I are frequent users. However there are more dog walkers or boarders who take four to eight dogs to the dog run at a go. Most of these carers do not pick up after their dogs as they cannot cope with the numbers or they are busy using their mobile phones. It seems they treat the dog runs as public dog toilets. This is unhygienic and bad social behaviour. Can the relevant authorities deter this ungracious behaviour? I would like to applaud the Reach feedback unit for using technology and getting citizens to log in to their Singpass to participate in the survey on Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally. Some government agencies and charitable organisations still go door to door to get feedback, which may not be cost-effective. In view of scams and for better security, perhaps the relevant authorities should ask the various agencies to follow Reach’s example. After reading the news article “Teen allegedly attacked for sharing video of student vaping; school says it will assist in police probe” (Sept 2), I wondered about the role of the police in the efforts to protect the teenager. Her father said he intends to employ a domestic helper to help protect her. The student said the school has arranged for a teacher to escort her. Why are a maid and teacher doing this policing work, which is not their area of speciality? The presence of police would surely deter further incidents.
