By 2030, one in four Singaporeans will be aged 65 and above. Among the challenges of an ageing population is access to and within major bus interchanges. This can be challenging for the elderly with walking difficulties. For example, the distance from the Pasir Ris MRT station to the bus interchange is about 100m. From the entrance, the distance to the bus berths can be up to another 400m. To make it easier for seniors, pregnant women, those with disabilities, parents with young children and others who have to carry heavy loads to get to the bus berths, can travelators be installed at major bus interchanges, including the new ones?
