Epson rolls out two new business inkjet printers as it continues to move from laser technology

In line with its sustainability commitment to phase out laser printers in Southeast Asia at the end of 2023, Epson has announced the Epson WorkForce Enterprise AM-C400 and AM-C550 business inkjet printers. Epson says that a survey they conducted with 1,500 office equipment decision-makers and end-users across Southeast Asia, found that half of the respondents (50%) indicated they would like to see more sustainable printers in the workplace, and nearly 3 in 5 indicated energy efficiency as the most important factor when considering sustainable printing. Derek Tan, Head of Sales and Marketing, Epson Singapore said: Although laser printers are popular in Southeast Asia, their energy-intensive printing process can conflict with companies’ sustainability agendas. The AM-C400 and AM-C550 are the A4 equivalents to the A3-enabled Epson WorkForce Enterprise AM-C4000 and AM-C5000 that were introduced in early 2023, meaning that the AM-C400 and AM-C550 come with the same features and functions. Like the AM-C4000 and AM-C5000, the new AM-C400 and AM-C550 both share the same chassis and look identical. Both printers have a reasonably small footprint of 465mm x 570mm and use a C-shaped paper route path to achieve high print speeds. This C-shaped paper route is simpler than the traditional S-shaped route path, so the unit can be compact while making it faster. According to the company, the difference between the AM-C400 and AM-C550 models lies in their print speeds. The AM-C400 and AM-C550 can print up to 40 and 55 pages per minute in both simplex and duplex modes respectively. They feature Epson’s Heat-Free printing technology to eliminate the use of heat in the ink ejection process, allowing the printer to print immediately within seconds of the first print-out time. When it comes to scanning, both can scan an A4 2-sided document at 120ipm, while an in-built Optical Character Recognition (OCR) can be used to search for words or characters within the scanned document, there is also an Erase Red Colour function to restore black and white documents to its original document without red-coloured markings or notes. Both also come with a capacitive 10.1-inch touchscreen-enabled display with a GUI that users can customise to suit their needs.   The new Epson WorkForce Enterprise AM-C400 and AM-C550 will be available for sale by May 2024 in Singapore on Epson’s website or via the . We will update this article with pricing information when we get them closer to its launch date.
