Canon EOS R1 full-frame mirrorless camera slated for 2024 launch

After a long wait, is set to unveil a successor to its EOS R camera, and this time, it’s a flagship model. The Japanese imaging company is aiming for a 2024 launch of the long-awaited . According to its official statement, the Canon EOS R1 is a full-frame mirrorless camera “geared towards professionals”, and it packs a new image processor (DIGIC Accelerator) in addition to the existing DIGIC X processor, a new CMOS sensor, and “advancements” in AutoFocus (AF) and “other functions”. Improvements include subject tracking accuracy, which Canon said EOS R1 has continuous tracking even in sporting events where multiple subjects tend to intersect each other. The AF “Action Priority” function also marks out subjects by identifying their movements, predicting their next move, and shifting the AF accordingly. Canon added it would continue to expand the EOS R System lineup with more cameras and RF lenses, which likely means that the new EOS R1 would get even more support and add-ons than before. However, the announcement did not state if the new EOS R1 would rectify some weaknesses of its “prosumer” camera.
