At the Game Developers Conference (GDC), AMD unveiled the (aka FSR 3.1) and added that it will be ready for 40 games that are available now or coming soon. The biggest improvement of FSR 3.1 is its leap in image quality through . Compared to FSR 2.2, the new FSR 3.1 will have a reduction in image flickering when the scene is static and a significant decrease in ghosting during movement. Interestingly, AMD has , opening the possibility for it to work with or technology. AMD says the first game to receive the FSR 3.1 upgrade will be Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart and will happen sometime later this year. Introduced as an alternative to NVIDIA’s DLSS 3, FSR 3 works differently by focusing on traditional frame interpolation over AI-driven frame generation that NVIDIA uses. The approach, while different, shares the common goal of bumping up framerates (albeit not by brute GPU power) and give lower-tier graphics cards a boost in gaming performance – and extending their shelf life just a little longer before having to upgrade.
